Join us for a fun evening of Wave Painting with the Master Wave Painter – Wade Koniakowsky

Wade has built a distinguished reputation as a wave painter whose lifelong immersion in both surfing and art gives his work a rare authenticity and depth. Beginning to paint at age six and taking up surfing (In Texas) before age twelve, Wade has blended his passions into a singular artistic voice, capturing the energy, motion, and spirit of the ocean in richly expressive paintings that resonate with surfers and art lovers alike.  His work has been featured in film, television, and major surf culture events.

Since this class will be during dinner hours, Beer, Wine and Light Bites will be provided to the participants of the workshop.

Breakdown of the Workshop-

• We will begin with a brief breakdown of the mechanics of waves – how waves move through the ocean, what happens as they approach the shore and how light falls on this moving form. Keep in mind that in wave painting, you’re painting a scene that happens in a split second.
• Next we will cover my time tested elements that make a great wave painting and how to render each of those elements.
• Lastly, before we begin painting, we will do a quick analysis of color most often used in wave painting, with particular emphasis on color TEMPERATURE (warm colors vs cool colors in wave painting).
• From this point on, I will be painting along with you, demonstrating step by step how to execute the scene.
• As we get into painting “froth lines” on the wave face, (the dissipating foam from the wave in front of the wave in the painting) we’ll discuss the use of a “script brush” or “liner” for creating froth lines.
• The actual painting will be proceeding step by step from reference I will be providing.

Medium Guidelines:  Water-based acrylic paint will be used for this workshop.  Participants are to bring their own supplies – a supply list will be provided upon signup.
