DESCRIPTION:“Looking Back While Moving Forward” with Guy Takayama.  Please join us for a special night at the museum on September 19th from 6-9 PM. Doors Open at 5:30PM. \nGuy helped us raise funds in 2019 at the Cowboy Surfer Bar\, when the Surf Museum was just a vision in Al’s head.  He is coming back to see what he helped us create and celebrate our success. \nThis is our biggest fundraiser of the year.  Guy will hold a Live Auction on a special Art Surfboard that he is creating for this event and we will have a Silent Auction with a lot of cool stuff. \nWe will have a buffet dinner and a cash bar sponsored by the Galveston Restaurant Group.  This event and Guy’s expenses are sponsored by Mary Moody Northen Endowment and Paradigm eDiscovery Solutions. \nPurchase Tickets by September 18th\, they will be $5.00 more at the door.

DESCRIPTION:If you have ever worked for the Galveston Beach Patrol or are currently working on the Beach Patrol\, you are invited to this reunion party.  If you are a member of the Surf Museum you are invited.  If you love and support the Beach Patrol you are also invited. \nThis party is sponsored by SMI Insurance to recognize and thank all of the people that have been a part of the Beach Patrol since it first began in 1913\, when the YMCA organized a crew of volunteer lifeguards for Galveston Island. Those early lifeguards worked unpaid\, patrolling the beaches from March to October. The group became a member of the Red Cross Life Saving Corp in 1919. \n

SUMMARY:Peter Davis - Artwalk May 9th
DESCRIPTION:Peter Davis is a seventh-generation Galvestonian and served as the island’s Beach Patrol Chief for 20 Years.  Davis attended Trinity University in San Antonio\, where he graduated in 1987 with a psychology degree. His intention was to become an art therapist. He received a graduate degree in fine arts from the University of California\, Davis in 1997\, but professionally he’s forged a career in aquatics. \nHe served as the project Art Director for the Seawall Mural Project\, located between 27th and 61st streets.  The Seawall mural “celebrates the diversity of gulf coast marine life and our continuing relationship with the environment\,” Davis said.  The framework of the art was also designed by Davis. \n“My goal in creating this mural was to expose and promote the rich and varied experience of the Texas coastal region\,” Davis said. “I wanted it to be a celebration of our successes and a warning about potential for failure in our relationship with our fragile natural environment.” \nWe are proud to feature the artwork of Peter Davis for the entire month of May and during the Artwalk Night on May 9th from 6-9 PM. \n
